M.D. (Chip) Purcell, Jr.


Chip Purcell, an esteemed attorney, stands as an accomplished trial lawyer with a distinguished reputation among his peers. Background
Chip is a graduate of the University of Texas (B.A., 1983) and received his law degree from Oklahoma City University, College of Law in 1988, where he was a member of the ATLA National Finalist Moot Court Team. In 1988, he was admitted to the Oklahoma State Bar and the Supreme Court of the State of Oklahoma. In 1989, he was admitted to the Florida State Bar and the Supreme Court of the State of Florida. In 2014, he was admitted to the Georgia State Bar. He is also a member of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the Western District of Oklahoma, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Upon graduation from law school, Chip was appointed Assistant State Attorney for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit of Florida where he gained extensive trial experience. He was later appointed Division Chief. He prosecuted cases including fraud and other financial crimes, capital sexual battery, child abuse, and other serious felony offenses. He has handled all levels of Misdemeanor and Felony cases including complex white collar offenses and capital offenses. Chip also worked with the United States Attorney in Oklahoma City working with the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force and on other Federal felony matters.

Since 1993, Chip has represented clients in many complex legal matters including civil and commercial litigation, medical malpractice, administrative and professional licensure actions, construction law, securities fraud and personal injury. He has also vigorously defended clients in all areas of criminal defense including misdemeanors, sex offences, drug offences, assault and battery, theft, forgery, firearms and weapons offences, and more. He has tried a wide range of cases in front of juries in state and federal courts.

Chip has lectured across the country on criminal trial procedure, constitutional law, construction lien laws, and the Stand Your Ground law. He is a member of The Florida Bar (member Trial Lawyers), the Hillsborough County Bar Association, and the Hillsborough County Trial Lawyers Association, The Oklahoma Bar, and the Georgia Bar. He has also served as a board member for many state and local charities, and he is a member of Creekside Church in Lutz, Florida.
