White Collar Defense
Chip Purcell is a graduate of the University of Texas (B.A., 1983) and received his law degree from Oklahoma City University, College of Law in 1988, where he was a member of the ATLA National Finalist Moot Court Team. In 1988, he was admitted to the Oklahoma State Bar and the Supreme Court of the State of Oklahoma. In 1989, he was admitted to the Florida State Bar and the Supreme Court of the State of Florida. In 2014, he was admitted to the Georgia State Bar. He is also a member of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Western District of Oklahoma, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Upon graduation from law school, Chip was appointed Assistant State Attorney for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit of Florida where he gained extensive trial experience. He was later appointed Division Chief. He prosecuted cases including fraud and other financial crimes, capital sexual battery, child abuse, and other serious felony offenses. He has handled all levels of Misdemeanor and Felony cases including complex white collar offenses and capital offenses. Chip also worked with the United States Attorney in Oklahoma City working with the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force and on other Federal felony matters.
Since 1993, Chip has concentrated his efforts on helping clients with all areas of criminal defense; civil and commercial litigation with a focus on real estate litigation; medical malpractice and administrative and professional licensure actions; commercial landlord/tenant issues, construction law, white collar criminal litigation, securities fraud litigation and personal injury. He has tried a wide range of cases in front of juries in state and federal courts.
Prior to entering the practice of law, Chip was a licensed private investigator, focusing on personal injury cases. This background has enabled Chip to have a unique understanding of the medical issues involved in medical malpractice, professional licensure, and personal injury cases.
Chip has lectured across the country on criminal trial procedure, constitutional law, construction lien laws, and the Stand Your Ground law in Florida. He is a member of The Florida Bar (member Trial Lawyers), the Hillsborough County Bar Association, and the Hillsborough County Trial Lawyers Association. He has also served as a board member for many state and local charities, and he is a member of Acacia Grove Church.
